Human Rights Tribunal has been allowed to advance — despite an employer’s attempt to have it tossed on grounds that anxiety doesn’t qualify as discrimination, the tribunal has ruled. ( David P. Ball/Star Vancouver )The tribunal ruled the case must proceed despite the employer arguing “the alleged facts … do not constitute a contravention” of the B.C. Federation of Labour’s health and safety department, the workers’ compensation agency received 840 complaints of workplace harassment or bullying last year alone. “Traumatic psychological injuries impact people’s long-term mental health,” she said. “Employers must implement procedures for responding to reports or incidents of bullying and harassment,” the agency said on its website.
