Workington drug-driver was 13 times over limit for cocaine metabolite


Paul Bowness, 36, was driving a Ford Fiesta at Newlands Gardens in Workington on December 1 last year. A blood sample showed he head 656mcg of Benzoylecgonine – the body breakdown product for cocaine – per litre of blood. The specified limit is 50mcg. Bowness, of Newlands Gardens, Workington, pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit when he appeared before Workington Magistrates’ Court. He must also pay £85 costs and a £48 victim surcharge.
