Working night shifts increases risk of miscarriage, study finds

A new study finds women who work two or more night shifts a week are more likely to have a miscarriage the following week. Pregnant women who work two or more night shifts a week have a greater risk of miscarriage, according to a new study. Published in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, the study found pregnant women's risk of miscarrying the week following multiple night shifts increased by around one third. Over 370,000 weeks of pregnancy were examined, and it was found after the eighth week, the risk increased to 32 per cent. The study was solely observational, which means researchers weren't able to identify a specific cause in the correlation with night shift workers and miscarriages.
