Worker's fall costs Oamaru decorating company $70,000Lindsay Whyte Painters and Decorators Ltd was sentenced on Thursday in the Oamaru District Court after one of its workers fell 2.8 metres off a roof. An Oamaru decorating company has been ordered to pay $70,000 after one of its workers fell 2.8 metres off a roof and smashed through a glass table. Two workers were on the roof and exposed to the risk of fall," WorkSafe said in a statement after the sentencing. A WorkSafe investigation found that the business had failed to identify the risk of a fall, failed to put any fall protection in place and did not ensure workers were trained and instructed in working at height. Even a fall from the roof of a single story can be fatal and controls need to be put in place.
