The Greater Chennai Corporation has started the construction of stormwater drains — six-feet deep and two-feet wide — in the neighbourhood, notably at Karampakkam Main Road and First Street in Porur. As a result of the flyover work, for the last ten years, Karampakkam Main Road and First Street had been a one-way, allowing vehicles from Mount–Poonamallee Main Road to Arcot Road to ply on it. Due to this, stormwater drain work could not be started on these two roads. We hope construction of stormwater drains is completed before the onset of the north-east monsoon,” says S. Vanmathi, a resident of Porur. Corporation officials say stormwater drain work on two streets will be completed in a month.
