In the December 2015 floods, an arch-shaped bridge across Cooum river on Avadi-Poonamallee High Road in Thiruverkadu collapsed. “The alternative sandy pathway does not have streetlights, speed-breakers and reflectors. If work on the bridge is completed and the bridge is thrown open to public, safety of motorists could be ensured,” says S. Murugesan, a resident of Thiruverkadu. However, as the old low-level bridge was collapsed, construction of the new bridge has become a priority. Necessary safety measures on the sandy pathway will be taken soon to ensure safety of motorists.”
