Woods to miss Players Championship
15-time major winner is still bidding to overcome back troublesReigning Masters champion Tiger Woods will miss next week’s US PGA Tour Players Championship with a back issue as the 15-time major winner’s return to defend his crown at Augusta National looms. “Back just not ready,” Steinberg told Golf Digest and ESPN. “The idea is to peak around Augusta,” Woods told reporters last week in a conference call. Woods also missed last week’s Honda Classic and the WGC Mexico Championship the week before that. Woods won The Players Championship in 2001 and 2013, with only three-time winner Jack Nicklaus having captured more titles in the Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, event.
