Auckland University sociologist Tracey McIntosh said the illegal strip searches raised multiple ethical and social issues. On Tuesday, Corrections confirmed it had offered inmates apologies and compensation to 15 women after a decade-long pattern of "systemic" illegal searches for contraband at the Auckland jail. Two other illegal searches are so far confirmed to have happened at Wellington's Arohata Prison.
