The government announced reservation of 30 per cent of state contracts to women, persons with disabilities, and youth-owned businesses in 2013. Women and youth are yet to get 30 per cent allocation of state supply contracts partly because of corruption, a forum was told yesterday. "The government of Kenya has a strong position on equality and women empowerment which underscores full attainment of the rights of women and the elimination of discrimination and violence against women," the CS said. CS Kariuki said her ministry will work to eliminate corruption to achieve the maximum access to government contracts for these special groups. These groups, said Gender Cabinet secretary Sicily Kariuki, have so far secured only an estimated 10 per cent of the lucrative state supply deals.
