He was inaugurating the first International Women’s Day celebrations after the Women and Child Development Department came into being in the State, on Thursday. The Chief Minister said the day was a reminder of women’s struggle for their rights and relevance. Many women were exploited twice over – because they were women and workers. The government was trying to form a new Kerala in which all marginalised sections became a part of the mainstream, Mr. Vijayan said.
