Women do 60 percent more unpaid work than men: report

A new study shows that women spend 60 percent more time doing unpaid work than men, such as raising children, doing household chores, and caring for relatives. A report by the Institute of Economic and Social Research (WSI) released on Monday showed that women work daily 1.6 times as long as men doing unpaid jobs, like house work, child care, and looking after relatives. But the reality looks different: Most of the unpaid work… is still performed in Germany by women,” the report notes. Full-time working men and women in total work the same number of hours (about 7 hours and 45 minutes) but full-time women spent 36 minutes more dailly on unpaid activities, and therefore less time on paid work. A man with a full-time position spends about 73 percent of his time doing paid work compared to unpaid work.
