A female garment worker, 27, has accused a union parishad (UP) member of rape in Ashulia, Savar. Ashulia police station inspector (officer-in-charge operation) Jahidul Islam told reporters that the victim filed a general diary herself on Sunday night. Abu Taher Mridha, the UP member from ward no 6, has absconded since the incident. According to family sources, the rape victim, who works at a local garment factory, lives next to the house owned by the Yearpur Union’s UP member in Narsinghpur area. They brought her to an abandoned house in Kandail area, also owned by Taher, and locked her in a room.
