The 61st Grammy Award nominations were unveiled on Friday, December 7, and female artists were finally accounted for in this year’s complete list of honorees. Last year, male artists not only dominated the nominations list, but they also won the majority of categories — prompting the hashtag #GrammysSoMale to trend on Twitter. In another big-ticket category, Album of the Year features a hip-hop/R&B-heavy lineup, including Cardi B for Invasion of Privacy, Drake for Scorpion, H.E.R. Women artists rule the Best New Artist category this year, giving them more of an edge to take home a Gramophone token. Grammy night will reveal whether The Recording Academy truly values female artists and rap music since simply nominating overlooked and/or well-deserved artists one time won't suffice.
