Woman's massive drink-drive reading shows 'very serious' alcohol problem

A Marlborough woman who blew more than five times the legal limit has a "very serious" problem with alcohol, a judge says. Blenheim resident Annaliese May Leighton, 30, was caught drink-driving on Main St, in Blenheim, giving a breath test reading of 1315 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath. He also noted that Leighton's breath alcohol count was "extremely high". "The breath alcohol test makes clear that you are an alcoholic and have a very serious problem in that way," Tuohy said. New legislation made the devices compulsory for repeat drink-drivers, or those with a breath test reading higher than 800mcg.
