The van caught fire on Mason Rd in Whatawhata on Wednesday morning. A woman crashed her van off the road after realising that it had caught fire near Hamilton on Wednesday morning. Fire crews extinguished the smoking van, Fire and Emergency NZ northern communications shift manager Peter Stevenson said. He said the woman crashed it off the road after realising it was on fire and panicking. The van caught fire on Mason Rd, in Whatawhata, shortly after 7am, Waikato Police Senior Sergeant Phil Ruddell said.
