Teacher Lauren Etchells boarded WestJet Flight 22 from Vancouver, bound for Gatwick Airport, on May 8, 2016. With her were her boyfriend, Marco van der Merwe, daughter, Kaydance, 18 months, and four-week-old baby son, Marcus. Afraid Tasha was going to take Kaydance from her, Lauren plotted to leave Canada in a hurry, helped, apparently, by her parents. Because Tasha and Lauren once considered moving to the UAE, where same-sex relationships are illegal, Tasha removed her name from Kaydance's birth certificate. Lauren suggested asking her ex-boyfriend to father the baby, as their previous donor had moved away.
