A Russian woman has died after she was “embalmed alive” in hospital. Investigators suspect criminal negligence after a doctor injected Ekaterina Fedyaeva, 27, with formalin, a poisonous formaldehyde-based solution, instead of a saline solution. Ms Fedyaeva was undergoing an operation in Ulyanovsk to remove a cyst from her ovary when the solution was injected into her abdomen. Formalin is used as a disinfectant or to preserve human remains. Ms Fedyaeva, who was planning to get pregnant, suffered severe pain after her operation.
