A mother and three children have been rescued from a Waikato mountain in chilling darkness. Woman and three kids rescued from mountain at 3amWESTPAC RESCUE HELICOPTER Mt Pirongia in the Waikato. Ranger said a dozen searchers from LandSAR and police took to the mountain on foot to search. Conditions on the mountain were "freezing", Ranger said, with southwesterly winds gusting up to 30knots. Luckily, the woman had enough battery on her cellphone to make a call to the Department of Conservation who reported them missing at 8.30pm.
