A Canterbury woman with a history of mail thefts has admitted taking more items from mailboxes and using credit cards and vouchers she found. ANZ Bank had posted a replacement credit card to a woman in Diamond Harbour. Hunter used it 27 times between September 7 and 10, 2018, spending a total of $1482.23. On September 17, 2018, a woman bought two $100 Countdown gift cards and couriered them to her son in Diamond Harbour. The Christchurch District Court judge ordered her to pay reparations of $623 for mail stolen from letterboxes in Selwyn and on the outskirts of Christchurch.
