The victim was identified as Sompong Pongsawat. Pol Colonel Pannaphat Dejchotpisit, commander of Muang Nonthaburi Police Station, said the fire broke out at the house on Soi Krungthep-Non 2 at 8.30am and fire engines arrived at the scene soon after. The fire was put out in about an hour before it could spread to neighbouring houses. Sompong’s daughter-in-law told police that she heard an explosion when Sompong was cooking in the kitchen. The daughter-in-law believes Sompong forgot her purse so she ran back in to fetch it.
