A 74-year-old woman who was visiting from China was struck and killed by a pick-up truck Tuesday as she crossed U.S. Route 1 in Laurel, Md. The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. along the southbound side of Route 1 near Locust Grove Drive, according to Maryland State Police. Yanhua Zhu of China was traveling with her family to the D.C. area from Philadelphia on a tour bus when it stopped for a break along Route 1. Police said a Ford pick-up truck was headed south when Zhu tried to cross the road. She was struck by the truck and taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
