Woman’s place in the new order

From The Times: April 27, 1921To the Editor of The Times,Sir, When women were made eligible for Parliament the fearful spoke as if the Commons would all be women. They forgot that women have, like other citizens, to obtain the suffrage of a free democracy. Women may fit themselves for the Bar or the pulpit, but they have to wait for Orders and for a brief. What they asked through the century was to be relieved of disabilities which belonged to the age of serfdom. Let them now be treated without prejudice, fear, or favour as are other citizens in the Empire.
