By Margaret McKenzieSome of the 12 cars that took to the Conway tracks Saturday. According to Paul Hallett, operations manager of Conway Scenic, these were crew cars, otherwise known as "speeders," or inspection cars that railroads used at one time to inspect the tracks. In order to safely share the tracks on Saturday during its lengthy journey, the club "had two qualified people in front and in back" of the convoy of cars, Hallett said. The protocol of sharing the tracks is in the rules, Hallett said — specifically, Conway Scenic Railroad Rule Book 21. The cars were trailered in from Wolfeboro and put on the tracks at Redstone.
