Withdrawal trend reverses in Jan Dhan accounts, deposits up by Rs1,000 crore

Photo: MintNew Delhi: Arresting the trend of withdrawals that began in December, the net balance in Jan Dhan accounts swelled by Rs1,000 crore to Rs63,971.38 crore during the week ended 5 April. The net balance in the accounts opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) was Rs62,972.42 crore on 29 March, as per the finance ministry’s data. Total deposits in these accounts had increased to a record high of Rs74,610 crore on 7 December and thereafter, started declining gradually. Meanwhile, the number of Jan Dhan accounts have increased to 28.23 crore of which 18.50 crore have been seeded with Aadhaar.
