(CNN) — A Wisconsin legislator was involved in a car crash that killed a woman and a 5-year-old girl, a statement from the lawmaker’s office said. Janet Bewley, 70, minority leader in the state Senate, was reportedly doing a phone interview with a newspaper reporter at the time of the crash Friday afternoon. Bewley was not seriously injured in the crash, her office said. Our thoughts and prayers are focused on the individuals involved, their families and their loved ones,” said the office’s statement. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said one of their reporters was on the phone with Bewley at the time of the crash.
