Winnipeg police evict encampment on north side of Manitoba legislative grounds

Winnipeg police say they have arrested seven people involved in bolstering an encampment on the north side of the legislative grounds and are evicting people who are staying there long-term. This was some of my final hopes," said Jason Morin, who said he had been frequenting the teepees since June. "We want this to be a place where people feel safe to visit, feel safe to come and have meetings, feel safe to work and feel safe to protest, because this is an appropriate place to protest, but there are safety concerns when people come and don't leave and … those are demonstrated over the last number of weeks." Mary Starr, who is originally from Sagkeeng First Nation and part of the east camp, said she was happy to see the north camp dismantled. © Fernand Detillieux/Radio-Canada Mary Starr says she was happy to see the end of the encampment on the north side of the legislature.
