# The Awami League, BNP and most other parties boycott the 4th polls in 1988. The ruling Awami League and its allies, contesting for a third-consecutive term in power, had listed 271 candidates under its ‘boat’ symbol. The Awami League itself bagged 257 seats, excluding seats won by ally party candidates. However, none of the Awami League candidates have lost their deposits. While 41 Jatiya Party candidates failed to recover their payments in the 10th national elections, no Awami League candidates endured the same fate.
