Graeme Percy won the Heart Foundation Lottery in 2016, and says he owes his life to the foundation's research. He said he possibly would not be alive today if it weren't for the Heart Foundation. Since it began in 1968, the Heart Foundation has put more than $70 million towards heart research and specialist training for cardiologists in New Zealand. Heart Foundation Direct Fundraising manager Gail McIntyre​ said the foundation relied on fundraising such as the lottery to continue their work. "The long-term sustainability of the Heart Foundation Lottery is challenged by the current legislation that prohibits Class 3 operators to run lotteries online or via phone," McIntyre said.
