Theresa May has promised a “transparent”, independently overseen review of the Windrush scandal, with a report on what went wrong expected before parliament rises for the summer recess at the end of July. Last night the government defeated a Labour move to force it to disclose internal documents including text messages and emails between ministers, officials and special advisers from May 2010 to 2018 relating to the scandal.
