ROBERT KITCHIN/STUFF William Martin Wakefield was charged with murdering baby Lincoln at Upper Hutt in June 2018. William Martin Wakefield, 32, told police that he was "gutted" baby Lincoln was not his son and he shook him to hurt him. Wakefield has pleaded guilty to manslaughter but the Crown has proceeded with a trial on the charge of murdering Lincoln on June 11, 2018. Wakefield pleaded not guilty to the murder charge at the High Court in Wellington on Tuesday. Defence lawyer Steve Gill said Wakefield had already pleaded guilty to the totality of the criminal offending and he asked for Wakefield to be found not guilty of the murder charge.
