The government will take steps to make Sri Lanka a landmine-free country within the next two years, State Minister of Rural Housing and Construction & Building Material Industries, Indika Anuruddha, said yesterday. The Sate Minister said this during an inspection tour of one of the demining sites at Muhamalai in Kilinochchi. He said the demining programme is being carried out expeditiously and the government has allocated over Rs. 200 million from the next year’s budget for demining. 7,000 million has been allocated for the resettlement of displaced persons and development of infrastructure facilities in war-torn areas.
