NewsPresident Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (Oct 20) said he would carry out at least one execution before his term ends, if the judgement in a case filed against the move, is delivered in his favour. The Supreme Court has issued an order, suspending the implementation of the death penalty until October 30, upon considering a fundamental rights petition of a prisoner. Addressing the National Youth Model United National session in Colombo, the President had however said that he would accept any verdict issued by court, the President's Office said in a statement. The President had pointed out that the youth should be intellectuals and exemplary individuals if they are to enter politics as it would assist in minimizing problems and developing the country. He had also stated that he had never retaliated despite being subjected to the highest level of criticism as a result of granting media freedom.
