Will Trump’s or Biden’s environment policy blow winds of change into Canada?

One of the biggest fault lines in policy that separates U.S. President Donald Trump and Democratic party candidate Joe Biden is how they view the threat of climate change and the environmental policies they propose to fight it. Trump’s record over four years is clear: he’s repeatedly downplayed and doubted the science of climate change, pulled the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Accord and he loosened hundreds of air and water pollution regulations. Biden says he will not ban fracking, an often-destructive form of oil drilling and extraction, but has committed to cancelling the Keystone XL Pipeline, a pipeline system that stretches from Canada to the US. Edward Keenan, the Star’s Washington bureau chief, talks to Adrian Cheung about how the two presidential candidates view the threat of climate change, their promises on renewable energy and what it all means for Canada.
