The Nationals paid Drew $3 million for 2016, and seem likely to bid on a short-term deal again. If he moves on, they will have to decide whether they are comfortable with Clint Robinson as their main left-handed power bat off the bench. But the Nationals could, nevertheless, consider a more everyday-ready right-handed power bat, too. Adding Bautista would add right-handed power the Nationals do not have, though Rizzo said he does not care so much about right-handed versus left-handed power, as Harper and Murphy do not wilt against left-handed pitching. Drew became a beloved clubhouse and bench staple in 2016, and the Nationals want him back.
