Ferris said that the worst of weather is expected to hit Auckland, Northland, Coromandel and Gisborne today before starting to ease from tomorrow. A heavy rain warning is in place for the region, which began at 8pm last night. Additionally, scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms are forecast after the heavy rain has eased on Monday. Schools are closed today and bin collections have been cancelled due to the forecast heavy rain and strong winds.
