LONDON—Julian Assange pledged to fight extradition to the U.S. in a brief hearing in a British court, kicking off what is set to be a lengthy battle to bring the WikiLeaks founder to trial in America over the 2010 leak of thousands of classified documents. Lawyers said the effort of extraditing Mr. Assange could take years and isn’t certain to succeed.
