The government has also decided that the widows of employees who died during their service will now receive pensions instead of salaries. Previously, the widows received salaries until the time when the deceased employees would have naturally reached the age of superannuation and would thereafter receive their pensions. They stated the people appointed by the mayor, and the chairmen of the district councils were being sacked, which was not acceptable. Moreover, they criticised the decision to only pay widows pensions of their deceased spouse instead of salaries until the age of superannuation. They warned that employees of municipal bodies will go on strike if the decision was not reversed.
