Last week, the FBI released new data for 2016 on hate crimes across the country. What’s more important is the increase in different types of hate crimes during the past several years. Those increases occurred alongside an increase in the number of hate groups nationally, as tracked by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Many victims of hate crimes don’t report them to the police, and not all law enforcement agencies report data to the FBI. Hate crimes are still rare in America, but they are increasing.
