Why pick on me? Sereno says Carpio, others have incomplete SALNs

Aside from Chief Justice Sereno, there are 13 other aspirants to the position of Chief Justice who have failed to submit the required number of Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Networth (SALN), according to the camp of the Chief Justice. Except for Pangalangan and Valdez, all the others were shortlisted together with Sereno. “The submission of all SALNs for those in government was a requirement which the JBC (Judicial and Bar Council) can waive and it waived not only for Sereno but also for 13 other applicants who had failed to submit their complete SALNs to the JBC,” the Sereno camp said Monday in a statement. ADVERTISEMENTDuring the impeachment hearing at the House of Representatives, it was discovered that Sereno only submitted three SALNs instead of the required 10 covering the years 2009, 2010 and 2011. Sereno’s camp also reiterated that the non-filling of SALN is not included in the impeachment complaint filed by lawyer Lorenzo Gadon and that the Chief Justice has not yet been given the opportunity to debunk these allegations.
