It has been moved to coincide with VE Day, as 2020 is the 75th anniversary of the end of World War Two in Europe. Bank Holiday Friday was supposed to be the start of a weekend of celebrations and commemorations, but sadly many events have been cancelled due to the coronavirus crisis. Outside of Europe, the Second World War ended when an armistice was signed with Japan on 14 August 1945. The second May Bank Holiday in 2020 will take place on a Monday (25 May) as normal.
