Wilson was right to insist on a second opinion, according to a Mayo Clinic study released this month. Of 286 patients who sought a second opinion from the clinic over a two-year period, 88 percent received a diagnosis that was either modified or completely different from the first one they received. But a friend who had had breast cancer strongly urged Wilson to get a second opinion anyway. “I share this to educate others that a second opinion is critical to your health,” Wilson said.
