“Kathleen Hale has been known to stalk people from time to time” is the first sentence of the official description of the essay collection Kathleen Hale Is a Crazy Stalker, which Grove Press will publish on June 4, 2019. The controversy stems from a widely read 2014 Guardian article by Hale entitled “'Am I being catfished?' Hale’s actions angered many in the book blogging community, who say they felt threatened at the possibility that other authors could similarly trace their real-life locations. Book reviewer Paige Cee, who has posted about the controversy on Twitter, has been part of the book blogging and reviewing community for the last eight years. Pajiba writer Kayleigh Donaldson, a former book blogger who focused on young adult books, wrote about the reaction in her literary circles to Hale’s Guardian article and stalking admission.
