Donors gave almost 1.5 billion kronor ($176 million) more to charity in 2015 than the year before, the Swedish Fundraising Control said. The group attributes much of the rise to Swedes reacting with their wallets to last year’s unprecedented influx of refugees. The United Nations’ refugee agency UNHCR saw donations rise 96 percent in a year in which Sweden took in 163,000 asylum seekers. Donations from private individuals accounted for a record 7.1 billion kronor of the total, one billion kronor more than in 2014.
