Why Salesforce's Tableau Buy Might Be A Blunder

GettySalesforce announced June 10 that it would pay a whopping $14.6 billion to acquire Tableau Software. Salesforce.com said on Monday it would buy data analytics and visualization supplier, Tableau Software, in an all-stock deal in which it exchanges 1.103 Salesforce shares for each Tableau share, according to CNBC. If the deal goes through, it would be the biggest acquisition in Salesforce's history (previously that distinction went to its 2016 Mulesoft buy for $6.5 billion). As Nair said, "It's a tremendous market -- worth over $100 billion, according to IDC. In the meantime, it remains to be seen whether Salesforce can accelerate the growth rate of the more moribund Tableau.
