The registrar of political parties cannot enlist Tangatanga Movement which is associated with Deputy President William Ruto as a political party. Acting registrar of political parties Anne Nderitu said such a move would be against the provision of Section 8 of the Political Parties Act. The law states that the registrar may refuse an application for the registration of a political party over unacceptable names or abbreviations. Nderitu further revealed that they accepted the Social Democratic Party (SDP) proposal to change the party’s name to Communist Party after a thorough assessment of what the identity meant. Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria’s Civic Renewal Party; former Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri’s Service Party are among those registered recently.
