Club cricket generally gives the world feel good blunders but there was nothing funny about what happened over in New Zealand. A club cricketer from New Zealand has been banned for life after reportedly threatening the umpire with physical violence and death. OBR Cricket Club’s Timoti Weir was alleged to have threatened a player-umpire at the end of the December 4 match against High School Old Boys Cricket Club. According to local media reports, the Poverty Bay Cricket Association alleged Weir had breached the New Zealand Cricket code of conduct — which would be his third breach overall. Weir reportedly didn’t fight the allegations and the panel handed down the maximum penalty, banning the player for life and deducting eight points from his team.
