THE INTERNET is awash with so-called “travel pants.” Google the term and you’ll find superlative-packed headlines including: “6 Best Travel Pants for Men and Why We Love Them” and “The Best Men’s Travel Pants for Every Type of Trip.” Chances are you’ve been served a Facebook or Instagram ad for these trousers so insistently ideal for travel. Travel pants look like chinos but feel like sweatpants and function like a parka. Travel pants declare, “I’m comfortable, but I also know what I’m doing,” said Zach Dahl, 26, a marketing automation manager in San Francisco, who favors travel pants from California’s American Giant for work. Other adherents respond to travel pants’ performance attributes. Even after several wears, “I don’t have to have [the pants] dry cleaned.” (Travel pants are easy to throw in the washing machine.)
