I’ve never felt comfortable pledging loyalty to a political party. In 2012, rather than support his reelection, I voted for Green Party candidate Jill Stein. What ultimately pushed me to formally register as a Republican was not one candidate or one election, but a pattern. Registering as a Republican, for me, is not a declaration of ideological purity. That’s why I’m registering as a Republican.
