Anyika Mark has been going to Carnivals for as long as she can remember — following in the footsteps of her mother, who did the same thing. "Because I grew up in Trinidad, it was a big thing," Heather Mark said. In March, the House of Commons unanimously voted to designate Aug.1 as Emancipation Day. "When I go to Carnival, I'm really reminded that, 'Wow, this is me,'" Mark said.
