At a time when fewer and fewer people seem to be watching linear TV, it may come as a surprise to hear that live video, actual old school live video, is becoming a big deal with brands. This isn’t about small Kickstarter-funded startups finding a clever way to market either, it’s about major brands like Walmart and Adidas discovering how effective live video is at reaching their core audience. The new branded live video isn’t just a talking head (though it can be.) Adidas, for example, worked with live stream veterans Brandlive to produce a whole day worth of live yoga classes to celebrate the launch of their new yoga line. Walmart was more tactical, holding a QVC-like live event during Black Friday to increase sales and connect with customers.
